Editing Blog for Music Video

We finished filming all of our footage on Saturday, November 23rd. The next week, on Tuesday, November 26th, we dumped the footage onto a flash drive. I emailed myself and the other members of all of the clips we recorded at the mall. It made it easier to download and edit the videos. It also helps us figure out what clips we didn't have. Some clips were missing or didn't load in the email. We just looked back and emailed those clips to ourselves again.
We started actually editing our blog on Tuesday, December 3rd. We put all of our footage together and aligned it in the order we want. We cut and trimmed extra footage that we didn't need. We had a lot to cut because at some points we just let the camera keep recording. We put it together to see if we liked the order the films were. We downloaded our song on an MP3. The intro to the song it longer than we wanted. We had to trim down the music and figure out what's going to play during the video.
Our second day of editing, we were trying to get the video finished. We aren't really familiar with Pinnacle Studios. We tested out the different transitions and see which one we liked the most. In some parts, we didn't add transitions because it wasn't necessary. There's one part where we jump and it switches from the inside to the outside. It didn't look right, we wanted a clean cut to the outside so a transition didn't really fit.
We didn't finish editing today. Our AICE Media teacher let anyone who didn't finish to come in during certain times on Friday. We were going to try and go during study hall to try and finish it up. I have a MacBook Air at home that I could bring to school and see if we can edit on iMovie. If we don't finish editing one of the members of our group will sign out a computer to take home. Another option is to use iMovie to edit the rest on if it isn't hard to use. We're going to be on a group call to discuss what else needs to be added.

Filming Blog for Music Video

The day we filmed, there were some factors that didn't how we planned. We forgot the SD card but we didn't want to film on break. We used our phones to film footage on whenever we could. It was actually easier to film on and it would be less noticeable to security so we wouldn't get kicked out of the mall. We didn't get a chance to go to the park or Myapapaya to film. In fact, we got almost all of our footage at Galleria. We still wanted to incorporate the outdoors into our video, so we filmed outside where the valet was. We didn't get a lot of footage outside since there wasn't much to film. However, we had too much footage inside. It also wouldn't have matched our outfits since all of the Christmas decorations were inside the mall.
We thought it would be colder than it actually was. We were expecting to be cold and breezy but it was pretty warm outside. We had to change our costumes that we were originally gonna wear. We decided to dress more casual holiday attire instead of onesies. We didn't bring any outfit changes out of since it wasn't cold out. We also decided to dress fall and Christmas themed since we didn't film at our backup places. I wore a Christmas shirt and jeans. The other members of the group wore fall colored clothes and jeans.
Filming the whole thing didn't take as long as we thought. We had 3 minutes' worth of footage in the span of an hour. We decided it was enough to cut down into a 1 minute and 15-second video. We had to refill some scenes a couple times. We didn't want to have as many people in the background. We also needed some things like escalators and couches to use as props. There were others obviously using what we needed so we waited till it was mainly empty. We didn't want to disturb others while they were at the mall.

Planning Blog for Music Video

We were planning to originally film at Galleria Mall. They have their Christmas decorations up and a big space to run around. That’s also where a lot of kids hang out. We were also planning to film at George English park. We were planning to film there anyways if we can't film at Galleria Mall. If the weather is bad and raining, we can film at Myapapaya Juicery that's right next to the park. If we don't have enough footage for the one minute and 5-15 second video, we're going to go to Party City. Each member of the group can get dropped off and picked up by their parents. If we do go to our backup filming places, we're going to use the pedestrian signals and the cross walk to stay safe.
We were thinking of using bubbles, balloons, confetti for props. We're trying to have a fun scene so we're going to make it feel like it's a party. We're trying to make it match the beat and theme of the song. We can get the props from the Dollar Store. We don't want dot waste too much money for just a few scenes. For the costumes we're were thinking about Christmas onesies, fall colored clothes and hoodies. We were going to wear our onesies in the mall to match with the Christmas decorations. The fall clothes and hoodies are going to be worn at the park since it's going to be cold out that day. The clothes will match the fall theme. We weren't planning on any specific type of shoe. We were trying to match the fall aesthetic.
For our schedule, we were planning to film all our footage on Saturday, November 23rd. Since our footage is already all filmed, we'll dump all the footage and delete the unnecessary ones on Tuesday, November 26th. If we have the time, we can edit some scenes and put them all together to have more time to edit. If we do need extra footage then we'll go film at Party City on Wednesday, November 27th. We'll start editing the week after Thanksgiving since we can't check out computers during the break. If we don't finish it in the 2 days, we must edit then one of us can check out a computer for the weekend. We'll be on a call to figure out what to do with each scene. Overall we have a pretty good plan that works for all of us.

Research for Music Video Project

Today we have to research our genre for our music video. I learned a lot about the production process from our last commercial. I learned how to use the controls on the camera. I get confused with zooming in and zooming out but other than that I feel comfortable controlling the camera. During the editing process, it was hard editing at first because I kept cutting out the beginning and last part of clips we were using. Using transitions were also hard because it didn't run smoothly. After tweaking and fixing the clips it finally looked how I wanted it.
The song we chose is Buttercup by Jack Stauber. We chose this because we found it on the app, TikTok, and it sounds like a fun, upbeat song. The usual conventions for pop music is wide shots, close up shots and pan shots. The sound is mainly upbeat and there's a lot of cut aways. Common costumes in pop music videos are mainly normal everyday clothes. Early 2010 pop music was basic clothes but over the years artists wear more costumes or more unique looks. The theme of these videos play a huge part in the video. The lighting in pop music videos that are more energetic and happy songs have more bright lighting in it while calm and mellow songs have dimmer lighting. The actors in pop videos are mainly the singer themselves, they may have a few extras but its mainly focused on them. The makeup for music videos vary. Some might have very bold makeup looks while some go for a more natural look. Theres not really much props in the music videos, there may be a radio or a chair but nothing abnormal. The setting for music videos also vary as well. Most joyful songs are in common, public places while gloomy songs are in buildings or private areas.

Editing

We had to finish filming all of our footage. I had to sign out camera equipment and we took and set up our props. We had to reshoot a few scenes due to the outfit changes. The scene where the main actress arrives to the store had to be shot again because we decided it was better if it was closer to the stairs so the store could be where the sign was originally gonna be. We also decided to change some scenes since we couldn't film in certain areas and we had more props than we did on Thursday. I got a table for the "Vans Store" from the library which made it easier for us to film. Then we had to finish shooting the last scene which is a bunch of us walking away from the store. Filming took longer than we thought because other kids needed to use the stairs and the J.R.O.T.C class was practicing near where we were filming. One of our friends passed by us and we noticed he had Vans on. We persuaded him for a while until he finally agreed to be in the shot.
After we finished filming we came back to class and started dumping all of our footage. We were suppose to start editing our commercial but the computers aren't working with Pinnacle Studios. When all of the footage was dumped we decided on what to do with editing. I had the idea about each one of us editing each scene but came to a conclusion that it would be confusing and more time consuming. We decided to edit the scenes together so we can explore the different features. After the footage finally finished dumping I returned the camera equipment and continued the next day.
We dumped all the footage onto my flash drive and we went through all of our footage. We deleted all the unnecessary clips. We put all the clips into a folder and opened up Pinnacle Studios and started editing. We sorted out and put the clips together and started "trimming" each clip. After we finished, we watched it and see if we needed to modify it more. When we finished with our corrections we played it again to see if it ran smoothly. Then we actually began editing the clips. We added in transitions, speeded up some scenes to make it under 30 seconds. Our original commercial was gonna be a minute long so we had to go back and deleted some clips we didn't need. We saved the completed commercial on a flash drive and continued the last day.
On the last day of editing we didn't have much left to do. We just added the Vans logo at the end of the commercial. After we finished editing we looked and decided on a song to put in the background at the end. We watched the final version of it to see if it runs smoothly and if its the way we wanted it.

Role in Commercial

We started filming our Vans commercial this week.  First I signed out the camera equipment which had a tripod, camera and an SD Card. After I picked up the equipment for the group, we had to bring the props and set them up at our location we were filming. I bought a Vans Poster, Vans shirt and a Vans shoebox. Our commercial is Halloween themed so the poster was hand-made with Halloween related colors. The shirt was a dark maroon shirt and a regular Vans shoebox. I had to wear the Vans apparel as well as the other members in my group.
In the filming process I was one of the actors. Our first scene was filmed at the Senior Patio outside that had tables and umbrellas which were handy for the hot, sunny day. After setting the camera and props up it was time to start filming the first scene. The main actress was talking about how she needed some new shoes and I would be in a Vans hoodie handing her a coupon and leaving. We switched to a POV shot of her noticing the coupon and hear my footsteps running away after. After we finished filming at the Senior Patio and we moved onto our next location.
Our next location was in front of the library. We all helped carry the props over to the top of the library. Our next scene was showing the main actress walking up to the store. This scene was of me "working" at the Vans store. I was holding up the Vans sign since we had no table or ledge to set it up on. We originally tried to put our Vans poster on the window but that didn't work and kept falling down. The scene is an over the shoulder shot of the doors and then a zoom-in of me holding the sign. After that we didn't have much time left since we needed to dump our footage. So then we had to pack it all up and decided to finish filming on Monday. I returned the camera equipment while my group put away the props and started dumping our footage.

Editting Lesson Blog

When a student checks out camera equipment they need to get a sign out form from the cubby and put the item number and your name on the form and put it in Period 6 folder. You need to get a new form every time you sign out a camera set. When leaving class you need to have your student ID on and everyone's name in the group to be on the pass in case of emergencies.

To edit you need to open up a folder to put your footage on.

  • If your working on a computer in class, you have to log onto the same computer and the same account you exported and edit your footage on. To export your footage put the SD card in the SD card reader and insert it into the computer. To find your footage go onto DCIM and set the date and time correctly on the camera so you can find your footage easier. If you can't find the footage on DCIM go to private, then click on AVCHD, go onto the next folder then click on stream and the footage should show up there.
  • Highlight all the footage you want and move it to your folder. After that it's safe to take out the SD card and the SD card reader and return it.
  • Open up Pinnacle studios 2017, 2018 or 2019. There's no difference between them. Delete the ads that show up on the app. Import the footage onto pinnacle studios and let everything fully load or it'll crash. Click on Desktop and select the footage needed if your using a shared SD card.
  • Leave AV Track 1 for a title if your putting one.  Hit the T and type in the title you want. Then just move it to a desired area on the screen.
  • AV Track 2 is for the footage recorded. Use the razor blade tool to cut footage. Highlight any footage you don't need and press delete.  Open up effect editors and you can add anything to the film like transitions and saturation.
  • The different colors on the top of your clips means you've changed something (red bar is the "play bar" and the green bar means transitions etc.)
  • AV Track 3 is for the sound and music. Go to MVIO072 to detach audio from your footage. To get YouTube music, convert songs into a MP3.
  • When you've completed editing all of your footage you need to export the completed version. Click on files and save the movie as whatever you're filming. Then add the movie to the folder and export. Make the movie an em-peg 4 and full SD.

Planning Blog for Vans Commercial

Our commercial is about Vans.
1) Props
The props that we will use in this commercial will be Vans shoe boxes, a skateboard, a Vans coupon, and Halloween decorations.
2) Costumes
The costumes that we use in this commercial will include Vans apparel. Specifically, Vans shirts, Vans hoodie, Vans shoes, a beanie, and chains for the actors playing on the Vans side. We will also include Converse shoes and shirt for the Converse-side actor.
3)Schedule
First, we will make the storyboard and the script for the commercial. After everyone learns their lines and places, we will begin filming our commercial in the senior patio. Continuing with the commercial on the next day, we will shoot extra takes of skateboard tricks for our commercial which will be featured at the end of the commercial. When we finish filming at the first location, we will then move onto our next location: the Media Center stairs. On the last day of this assignment, we will edit our commercial and put every shot in the order of our storyboard.
4) Location
The locations that will be used for our commercial will be the senior patio, specifically the steps and the tables. We will also film in the Media Center stairs, which is where our "Vans store" set will be.
5) Back Up Plan
So if it's raining,we will have to film inside the Media Studies classroom instead of the senior patio. Additionally, we will have to film our skateboard shots near the media center instead because we can still get outside shots, however we will still have a roof over us to not get wet. Also, if one of us who is acting is absent, we will have to change roles in the commercial and one of us would have to play someone else's part. Additionally, if our camera man is absent, we will have one of our actors film, while another actor takes their part.

Conversion

Our commercial is about Vans products. Some common conventions and codes in Vans commercials include skaters as actors. The target demographic for Vans include teens and young adults, which is why the actors in these commercials are also generally young adults or teens. These actors are typically athletic and often run or do skateboard tricks in the commercials. They also wear Vans shoes and Vans shirts or socks in the commercials. Vans commercials may also feature famous athletes or skaters to talk about the products. The actors are normally within a group of friends; however, some commercials include skaters by themselves.

Additionally, the location of these commercials are usually outside in skate parks or on the street. Typically, the lighting of these commercials are very bright due to the sunny weather of being outside. However, commercials that feature more close ups of the shoes tend to have darker lighting.

Lastly, common music found in Vans commercials include Rock or Upbeat music. Popular artists that make this type of music for Vans commercials are Avril Lavigne, Sik-K, and DJ, Mia Carucci.

Introductory

Hi! My name is Audrey. So here's a little background information about me. I am a very nice and loving person. I'd consider myself to be hard-working and highly organized. However, I also tend to find myself slacking a bit in a few occasions. I definitely wouldn't consider myself as a spontaneous person, I'm the one making and bringing a whole agenda to any trip I go to. I'm not a social person but I also wouldn't consider myself an introvert either, I mainly find comfort around the people I know. I could never be a serious or mean person, I'll always be smiling and making jokes to any person I know (comfort zone is important to me). I'm a conservative person, I don't like wasting materials or products, I try and make something last as long as possible.

Enough about my personality traits. My interests are pretty interesting. To start off with, I'm a huge dog lover. They're just so loving and caring. I like sleeping probably because I just stay up late on most nights. I love listening to music it can complement my mood and bring out another side of myself. I like being active, I'd stretch myself mostly or stay walking and being mobile. I give myself a day to relax and focus on myself. I might do a little spa day for myself which can calm myself down. In my free time, I like to organize my closet, school work or anything I can. I'm very big on self care. I have many interests I'd like to add to my daily life like cleaning and reading books not related to school.

I feel like I have a very active imagination and that combined with my organization helps me a lot with my goals. I have lots of big ideas for myself in school. I know my ideas can be a bit bold but I have plans to get to where I could be to improve my future opportunities. Most of my classes are Pre-AICE and two are AICE and I'm very proud about that. I try and get as most work done as possible so I don't have to stress about it later. I'm trying to graduate early so I can get a head start in my career path. I'm aiming for an AICE Diploma or any scholarships so I can help my parents financially. I have an abundance of options to figure out where and what I want to be. I have my main goal to work in the medical field and I definitely need an advantage on that.

I feel like that's enough about myself for now. I hope everyone has an amazing day!
